Two for '23: (1) Therapeutic Jurisprudence; (2) Global Leadership

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to share plans for two programs that I'll be developing and offering during the first half of next year, dates and times to be determined:

An Introduction to Therapeutic Jurisprudence

Many members of the HumanDHS community engage in work that overlaps with law and public policy. Past attendees of the annual December workshop may have attended dignilogue sessions invoking therapeutic jurisprudence (TJ), an interdisciplinary school of theory and practice that examines the therapeutic versus anti-therapeutic properties of law and public policy, legal procedures, and legal institutions. There is a natural tie between the human dignity and TJ communities.

As both a HumanDHS board member and founding board chair of the International Society for Therapeutic Jurisprudence (ISTJ) (https://intltj.com), a non-profit, learned association dedicated to public education about TJ, I will be developing an introductory program on TJ, with an eye towards those who are not trained in law. Prof. Shelley Kierstead, current ISTJ board chair, is very enthused about working in partnership to develop this program. It will discuss the basic tenets of therapeutic jurisprudence, show how to access much of the relevant TJ literature, and invite participants to apply a TJ-informed lens to law and policy issues of interest to them.

Global Leadership and Public Intellectual Work to Advance Human Dignity

Developing roles as global leaders and public intellectuals are among the paths toward advancing human dignity on a broader scale. These roles need not be publicly prominent, but they should aspire to expand our influence beyond our current circles. Accordingly, this small group workshop will (1) define and examine global leadership and public intellectual work; and (2) invite participants to develop ways to engage and share their work on a broader scale. Brief workshop materials will cover topics such as global stewardship, servant leadership, public intellectualism, and intellectual activism.

Dear David,

I am very interested to learn more about therapeutic jurisprudence (TJ). Is there an introductory program available online?

Also, the workshop and materials on global leadership and public intellectual work is also highly interesting, as for example, the studies on global stewardship, servant leadership, public intellectualism, and intellectual activism.

Are there materials or workshops available online for access to these topics? In addition to, could any of these areas be supported by a possible "educational toolkit" to help develop and support our dignity community?

Kim, the materials for both programs will serve as core source materials that can be posted for others later.

For the time being, you can access some core therapeutic jurisprudence materials by going to the "Networking" post I wrote:
https://www.worlddignityuniversity.org/ ... c?p=45#p45

There I link to the International Society for Therapeutic Jurisprudence and to two law review articles I published in 2021 that provide survey-type treatments of therapeutic jurisprudence for those who seek an introduction and listings of hundreds of sources in the footnotes.

Thank you for your interest!
